The Tribulation
THE KEY POINT OF THIS CHAPTER: If spiritual Israel is now God´s chosen people, then any end time tribulation would center around them and not the literal Israel of today as many are taught.
What does the Bible say?
It is my understanding that Daniel 9:27 is the main text used to support the theory of a seven-year period of tribulation. But does this text apply to the last days at all? Let´s examine this text carefully.
Daniel 9: 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Historical Background Of Daniel 9:27
Even though God chose Israel to be His special people, He never removed their right to choose. God, along with promises, gives conditions. If the conditions are met then the promises are kept. If the conditions are not met then the promises are not kept. Notice in the following texts the two little words "if" and "then." (Emphasis on the "if" and "then" in the following texts are obviously added)
Exodus 15: 26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, (Then) I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee. (the word "Then" is supplied)
Exodus 19: 3 And Moses went up unto God, and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; 4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people; for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
Many believe that God is going to intervene for modern day Israel when war comes, but notice the conditions for that intervention. Has the Israel of today met these conditions?
Exodus 23: 22 But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.
Leviticus 26: 3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; 4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. 12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
"But" notice what happens if they don´t meet the conditions.
14 But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; 15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: 16 (Then) I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. (The word "Then" is supplied) 18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. 19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: 20 And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. 21 And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; (Then) I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. (The word "Then" is supplied) 22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate. 23 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me; 24 Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins. 27 And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; 28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. 29 And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat. 30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you. 31 And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours. 32 And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it. 33 And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste. 38 And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.
If they did not meet the conditions then punishment, but if they returned again to meeting the conditions, then blessings again.
40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; 41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: 42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.
The big question is this, Did or have the literal children of Israel "confess(ed) their iniquity"? In light of the murder of Christ, the stoning of Steven, and their continued denial that Christ has come, the answer is an obvious, "No!" Now continuing with the background of Daniel 9:27. Because of sin (not meeting the conditions), Israel was allowed to be captured and taken to Babylon for seventy years. This is when the first temple was destroyed.
2 Chronicles 36: 15 And the Lord God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: 16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, till there was no remedy. 17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand. 18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon. 19 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof. 20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: 21 To fulfil the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.
At the end of the 70 years, God would see if they had learned their lesson by giving them another chance to meet the conditions. Israel would return to their land, rebuild their city, and their temple (the second temple). Daniel was aware that this 70 years, foretold by Jeremiah, were just about completed, and he begin to pray that the Lord would keep His promise and allow his people to return to their land. (Verses 3 - 17 below)
Daniel 9: 1 IN the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans; 2 In the first year of his reign, I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. 3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: 4 And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; 16 O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. 17 Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lords sake.
Near the end of the 70 years of captivity, the angel Gabriel told Daniel about another period involving 70, but this time it was 70 weeks.
Daniel 9: 24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
70 weeks = 490 days The 70-week period would begin during the time of Persia and continue down to the time of the Messiah the Prince. As will be seen, Israel´s destiny as a nation would at that time be determined by her choice to receive or reject that Messiah!
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
In prophecy a day represents a year.
Numbers 14: 34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
Ezekiel 4: 6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
Thus 490 days = 490 years The 490 years would begin with "the command to restore and to build Jerusalem" (Restore civil services)
Daniel 9: 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
There were several commands involving the return of Daniel´s people to Jerusalem, (Ezra 1:1-3; 6:1,8; Nehemiah 1:3 & 2:1-9) But the one that was foretold in Daniel 9:25 was the "command" issued by the Persian King Artaxerxes in the year 457 B.C. This was the command that finally permitted Jerusalem to set her own government and become an independent nation again. Notice especially Verses 25 & 26 below.
Ezra 7: 7 And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king. 12 Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time. 13 I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee. 21 And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily, 25 And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not. 26 And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.
Notice in the following text that it was done according to the combined commands of the three kings. King Artaxerxes was the final command that completed the fulfillment of Daniel 9:25, so the clock started counting down the seventy weeks (490 years) at the time of his command.
Ezra 6: 14 And the elders of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.
The 70-week prophecy is divided into three smaller periods - 7 weeks, 62 weeks, and 1 week.
Daniel 9: 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Seven weeks (49 years) + 62 weeks (434 years) = 69 weeks (483 years). Starting at 457 B.C., 483 years reaches to 27 A.D., the time of the Messiah. When doing these calculations one must remember that there was no zero year.
Daniel 9: 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
The word "Messiah" means "the Anointed One." In 27 A.D., Jesus Christ was baptized by John.
Luke 3: 21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. 23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,
Jesus was then "anointed" by the Spirit.
Matthew 3: 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Acts 10: 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
After His baptism, Jesus said, "the time is fulfilled"
Mark 1: 14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
The start of Christ´s ministry was the fulfillment of the "seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks" in Daniel 9:25. History verifies the day for a year principle, for it was exactly 483 years from the third decree of Artaxerxes in 457 B.C. to the time of the anointing of Christ (the Messiah).
Daniel 9: 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
This fulfills the first 69 weeks of the prophecy, leaving "one week" (seven years) left.
Daniel 9: 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he (Messiah Verse 26) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Daniel 9:27, which speaks of the famous "70th week of Daniel," is, I understand, one of the most controversial texts in the entire Bible. People today are applying this famous seven-year period to a future seven-year period of great tribulation. I understand that the majority of popular views, about the end-time, revolves around this interpretation. The best-selling Christian book series, Left Behind, is a perfect example.
A Popular Interpretation Of Daniel 9:27
The word "he" refers to the Antichrist.
This Antichrist will "confirm the covenant" with Israel during the seven years of tribulation. The Antichrist will break this covenant in the "midst" of the seven years.
A third Jewish Temple must be rebuilt in Jerusalem because the Antichrist will "cause the sacrifice to cease." Therefore, the sacrifices must have been restarted. Does Daniel 9:27 specifically mention the Antichrist, a rebuilt Jewish Temple, or a seven-year period of great tribulation? Do the texts just preceding Daniel 9:27 mention the Antichrist?
Daniel 9: 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
The answers are an obvious, "NO!" Who is specifically referred to in the 70-week prophecy of Daniel 9:24 - 27?
Daniel 9: 24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
None of the previous verses of Daniel 9 refer to an Antichrist so it is not logical for "he" to suddenly mean, Antichrist. To apply the "he" to someone that is not previously mentioned is not grammatically correct. If Verses 25 and 26 are referring to Christ, then doesn´t it make perfect sense that the "he" in Verse 27 is also referring to Christ? Of Course! Also, many Bible commentaries interpret the "he" in Daniel 9:27 as Christ. Commentary by Matthew Henry for example. Then why do so many people apply this to the antichrist?
Ten Reasons Why Daniel´s 70th Week (Daniel 9:27) Was Fulfilled 2000 Years Ago!
1. Gabriel said, "seventy weeks" (Daniel 9:24). This implies one consecutive block of time. If someone says, "I´ll see you in 70 days," this means 70 consecutive days without a large gap between the 69th and 70th days.
2. Logic requires that the 70th week follow immediately after the 69th week. If one skips two weeks than it would be the 72nd week instead of the 70th. A 2,000-year gap is not Biblical.
3. The focus of Daniel 9:24-27 is the Messiah, not the Antichrist. (See Daniel 9:25-27 above)
4. There is no specific reference, in the text itself, to the Antichrist, a rebuilt temple, or any seven-year period of great tribulation.
5. Jesus Christ "confirmed" the promises (See Romans 15:8 below). Nowhere in the Bible does the word "covenant" apply to the Antichrist. Popular teaching apples Daniel 9:27 to the Antichrist making a covenant or peace treaty with the Jews during the tribulation. But the text refers to "the covenant" which applies to the New Covenant confirmed by Jesus Christ.
Daniel 9: 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Romans 15: 8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises (or covenant) made unto the fathers:
6. Jesus said, "This is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins" (Matthew 26:28). He used the very words "covenant" and "many" from Daniel 9:27!
Daniel 9: 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Matthew 26: NIV 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
7. In the "midst of the week" He would "cause the sacrifice to cease." Popular teaching applies this to the Antichrist breaking his covenant with the Jews during the tribulation as he stops the sacrifices of the rebuilt Jewish temple. Yet the text says "he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week," not break it in the midst. Jesus Christ did confirm the covenant. After 3 1/2 years of ministry (in 31 A.D.), His death caused the sacrifices to cease.
Matthew 27: 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
8. Referring to the Jewish Temple, Jesus said, "Your house is left to you desolate" (Matthew 23:38). Jesus is quoting Daniel 9:27. Christ did not say that their house would be (future) but "your house is" (present) clearly showing that this situation was eminent.
Matthew 23: 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
Daniel 9: 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Jesus clearly applied to the "it" in Daniel 9:27 ("for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate") to the temple which would be destroyed in A.D. 70. It was in this temple that Jesus would "cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease."
Matthew 24: 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
In the text below, Jesus told the disciples that when they saw the armies surround Jerusalem that they would know that the "desolation" would be close.
Luke 21: 20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
Christ´s last words to the Pharisees in the temple were words confirming the closeness of this desolation.
Matthew 23: 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
History records the awful events that took place during the siege of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. Remember the "if" "then" in Leviticus, God had told them that He would bring their sanctuaries unto desolation "if" they chose not to obey Him. During the siege the Jews did indeed eat their children because of starvation.
Leviticus 26: 27 And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; 28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.
The Jews are still with out their sanctuary. In fact, their enemy has built a temple on the very spot where their own temple once stood.
9. The 70th week was from 27 A.D. - 34 A.D. The entire 70-week period was for the Jews. The "covenant" was confirmed to Israel by Jesus Christ and His disciples during the 70th week. In 34 A.D. after the stoning of Stephen by the Sanhedrin, the gospel began to go to the Gentiles. See Acts 7; 8:4. In Acts 9 Paul was converted to become the "apostle of the Gentiles" (Romans 11:13). In Acts 10 Peter received a vision revealing it was now time to reach the Gentiles. See also Acts 13:46.
From A.D. 27 to A.D. 34, the disciples went only "to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
Matthew 10: 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
But remember the "if" and "then." The Children of Israel had not met the conditions and this was confirmed by Stephen.
Acts 7: 51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. 52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: 53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. 54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. 57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, 58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young mans feet, whose name was Saul.
The time that God had given them, for another chance, had expired and the gospel message was then taken to the Gentiles. In Verse 58 above, there is mention of Saul being at the stoning of Stephen. In Acts chapter 9, Saul´s name is changed to Paul and he refers to himself as "the apostle of the Gentiles."
Romans 11: 13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Acts 13: 46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. (all emphases supplied)
10. Ancient Bible commentaries (Matthew Henry; Adam Clark; Jamieson, Fausset & Brown) see Jesus Christ in Daniel 9:27. All of these interpret the "He" in Daniel 9:27 as referring to Christ.
So, if the 70th week was fulfilled by Christ and His disciples, then Daniel 9:27 does not refer to seven years of tribulation as many have been led to believe. Even if there is not going to be a seven-year period of tribulation, this does not mean that there will not be any tribulation at all. On the contrary, the Bible warns of much tribulation in the end time. Many believe that God´s people will be raptured up before the tribulation starts, but is this what the Bible teaches? Will Christians go through tribulation?
Acts 14: 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.
2 Thessalonians 1: 4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God, for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:
John 16: 33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Revelation 1: 9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 2: 9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. 10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
God´s people were protected through the flood, Daniel was protected through the Lion´s den, the three Hebrews were protected through the fiery furnace, and the Children of Israel were protected through the plagues. God´s people have always been protected through rather than taken away from tribulation. Some believe not only in a seven-year tribulation and that God´s people will be raptured before it starts, but also in a second chance for all those that are left behind. Is this what the Bible teaches? There was no second chance in Noah´s day and the Bible, in the following text, says that the coming of Christ will be just like the coming of the flood in Noah´s day.
Matthew 24: 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
The idea of a second chance has Satan written all over it. It gives the subtle message that one can party now and change his or her ways later. But, notice the following text. When is one´s day of opportunity?
2 Corinthians 6: 2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
